ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – A happy head coach Scott Frost made his usual media appearances on Thursday after his beloved Chicago Cubs secured a World Championship, winning Game 7 of the World Series Wednesday night.
Frost called the Cubs winning a "special deal" but refused Mike Bianchi's request to sing "Go Cubs Go" with him when he was on the Open Mike program on FM 96.9 The Game this morning. When the conversation got around to football and the Knights, Frost addressed his team's depth and if it had anything to do with seeing first-half leads slip away in two of the last three games.
"I think that's a piece of it," Frost said of his team not being as deep as he'd like. "Our maturity as a team is another piece … making sure we don't make mistakes that allow a team to get back in the game. Having some veteran guys that will step up and get everybody else rallied to make one more play that will make a difference in the game … I think it's a number of things. Down the road, in the next couple years with this program, we're going to have a lot more depth than we do and be able to play more guys."

The Tulane game was originally scheduled for Oct. 7 and the Knights got most of their practices in that week before the contest was postponed. This was supposed to be UCF's bye week. So the team hasn't gotten the full rest that a bye week would allow them. However, with nearly a full week's worth of prep for Tulane already in the memory banks, Frost was able to give the Knights a bit of a physical break this week.
"Basically, Monday practice went from a normal practice to a walk-through," Frost said. "Having already prepped for Tulane helped with that, because a lot of the game plan carried over. Our guys needed a couple days in a row to recover. The guys handled it great. Tuesday and Wednesday were our best Tuesday and Wednesday ever, so I feel great about where we are."
