HANAHAN, S.C. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF women's golf team clawed its way to a tie for third at the Cougar Classic Monday, notching a collective 20 birdies and one eagle on the 6,224-yard par 72 track at Yaeman's Hall.
The Black and Gold, led by senior Ashley Holder, shot a combined five-under par on day two with three Knights turning in rounds under par.
Holder fired a 68 (-4) that included three birdies and a bogey-free front nine. After finding the fairway on the par-4 10th, she stepped up and hit a perfect wedge, dropping an eagle from roughly 100-yards out.
After rising 15 spots, Holder is tied for seventh among individuals heading into Tuesday's final round.
Senior Johanna Larsson and junior Kaeli Jones each turned in rounds of 71 (-1) while senior Ayaka Nakayama and freshman Maria Balcazar each shot 73 (+1). Sophomore Nicolette Donovan carded an 84 (+12) playing as an individual.
UCF is now -9 for the tournament, just nine-shots back of leading Furman and eight-shots behind second place North Carolina.
