Thursday Frost Bytes

ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – UCF head coach Scott Frost has the Knights at 4-3 overall after UCF went winless in 2015. A great deal of improvement is obvious simply by looking at the win total.

However, some statistical information released by CoachingSearch.com earlier this week drove the point home even further. The Knights boast the third-most improved offense and the third-most improved defense in NCAA FBS football so far this season.

Frost was asked about that statistic during his regular media session after Thursday's practice.

"We've been talking about improvement all along and setting new standards and beating those standards," Frost said. "It speaks to the coaching staff we have here, offensively and defensively, working every single day on the detail, the effort and everything that it takes to improve. Some of these guys that didn't experience a lot of success on offense and defense last year are reaping the rewards of the effort this year."

Earlier on Thursday morning, the Knights head man also made his weekly appearance on FM 96.9 The Game's Open Mike radio program. In his discussion with Orlando Sentinel columnist and Open Mike host Mike Bianchi, he discussed true freshman McKenzie Milton's development and his passing output last week at UConn. Milton passed for 317 yards and three scores – the third-best passing day for a freshman in Knights' history – to lead UCF over the Huskies 24-16.

"That was another big step in his progression and development," Frost said. "We knew we were going to have to throw the ball to beat them. I was a little worried about it when it was pouring and cold in warmups. They got ahead of us and luckily the weather got a little nicer for the right amount of time. McKenzie, in that game, really got the ball to where it was supposed to get on time. He found some small holes in the zone that he had to hit. I saw him do some things in that game he hadn't done a lot of yet, so it's great to watch him progress and grow every week."

Frost also discussed his Chicago Cubs fandom at the beginning of the interview, along with some thoughts on Houston and a few other topics. To hear Frost's complete appearance on Open Mike, CLICK HERE.

The Knights and Cougars are set for a Noon ET/11 a.m. CT kickoff from TDECU Stadium in Houston Saturday. The game will air on ESPNU. Radio listeners can hear the game on FM 96.9 The Game or through iHeart Radio.
