ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF suffered a 2-0 setback at FIU on Tuesday night. In an evenly played match, both tallies for the Golden Panthers came during the final 20 minutes at the FIU Soccer Complex.
"We played really well in the first half and were unfortunate to not get a goal," head coach Bryan Cunningham said. "In the second half, we lost our legs a little bit and consequently gave up the first goal. As a result, we had to chase the game, which led to their second goal."
The Knights (4-9-0) had their chances and earned a game-high seven corner kick opportunities, but were unable to find the back of the net for the first time this season. UCF controlled possession and had a 4-2 advantage in shots over the first 35 minutes against the Golden Panthers (6-6-2).
TOUGH ENDING
- In the 73rd minute, Joris Ahlinvi scored the opening marker on a shot from the left wing that curved just inside the far post.
- A little less than eight minutes later, the Golden Panthers extended their lead when Alvaro Alvarez headed in a service by Juan Benedetty.
- The Knights' final opportunity in the 89th minute by senior Diego Bacellar was denied by FIU goalkeeper Daniel Gagliardi, who notched his fourth shutout.
KNIGHTS NOTABLES
- Reigning American Rookie of the Week, freshman Brian Jamba, tied a match-high with three shots during the contest, which included one on target.
- The shots were just about even at the half with FIU holding a slight 5-4 advantage.
- Freshman goalkeeper Matt Rosenberg made his 12-straight start and finished with six saves.
- Juniors Matias Pyysalo and Walker Dawkins have started all 13 matches this season for the Knights.

- The Knights continue a two-match road trip on Saturday with a 7 p.m. start at Temple.
