PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (UCFKnights.com) – The 2016-17 American Athletic Conference Media Day opened with preseason praise for Zykira Lewis. The senior was named to the American Athletic Conference Preseason Second Team, as announced by the league office on Monday.

"It's a blessing," Lewis said after learning of the accolade. "I'm very thankful for this honor."

No stranger to conference honors, Lewis was a unanimous selection to The American All-Freshman Team and an All-Conference Second Team honoree in 2014-15.

"I'm very excited for her. I think it's well-deserved," head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson said. "Her work ethic shows every day in practice why our coaches in the league would vote for her. She's a great teammate; she's so unselfish. I'm happy for her."

The Bartow, Fla., native became the 21st 1,000-point scorer in UCF history, reaching the milestone with her second three-pointer against Buffalo on Nov. 28, 2015. She ranks second in Knights' history for career three-pointers (191), fifth for career points (1,356), sixth for career field goals (497) and eighth for career steals (156).

The Knights, who were selected to finish eighth in the conference preseason poll, make the rounds at The American Media Day at the Philadelphia Airport Marriott on Monday.

UCF opens the season on Nov. 11 at FIU before returning for the home opener against South Alabama at CFE Arena on Nov. 13.
