ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com)-- Superb performances against UConn and Temple led to redshirt junior Kia Bright being named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
"What a tremendous honor for somebody who has dedicated so much of the last year to put herself in a position where she could be effective for her teammates," head coach Todd Dagenais said. "People know her as a hard-nose player, but the real truth is that she has one goal and that's to not let her teammates down."
On the week, Bright recorded 35 kills, 22 digs and hit at a .337 clip. The Starke, Fla., native averaged 4.38 kills per set to go along with 2.75 digs per set.
She helped the Knights sweep UConn on Friday. Bright tallied 10 kills, with just one error, hitting .281 for the match. She also made 12 digs and posted two solo blocks in the victory.
Bright registered another stellar performance against Temple on Sunday. The outside hitter finished the match with 25 kills, hitting .367. Bright, who leads the team in double-doubles, posted her 10th of the season with 12 digs.
Bright collected the second league honor of her career. She also was named Offensive Player of the Week in 2014.
