AAC Standings UConn/Temple Game Notes

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The Knights are packing warm clothes this week, as the team heads to the northeast to face conference opponents UConn on Thursday night at 7 p.m. and Temple on Sunday at 1p.m.

Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 50's for Thursday's match with the Huskies but could be nearing a more familiar 70 degrees when UCF faces Temple on Sunday.  

UConn sits atop the American Athletic Conference (AAC) tied with SMU at 10 points while a struggling Temple team will look for its first conference win against South Florida this week before meeting the Knights on Sunday.

UCF is looking to make up ground with a pair of wins, and is currently tied with South Florida for fifth holding four points each. The Black and Gold are third in the AAC scoring against conference opponents, averaging 2 goals-per-game.  

UCF vs. UConn
• UConn is 3-0-1 in AAC play while UCF is 1-1-1, The Huskies currently top the conference standings along with SMU.
• The Knights are No. 23 in the nation in scoring offense averaging 2.33 goals-per-game while UConn ranks No. 60 averaging 1.93 goals-per-game.
• The Black and Gold are 3-5-0 all-time against the Huskies, including a 3-2 defeat at home last season.
 
UCF vs. Temple
• Temple is 0-4-0 in AAC play while UCF is 1-1-1 (as of 10.12.2016).
• The Black and Gold are a perfect 5-0-0 all-time against the Owls, winning last year's regular season meeting 1-0 before also eliminating Temple in the opening round of the 2015 AAC tournament by a score of 2-1.
 
Gameday Notables
• Through 12 games, 12 different players have scored 28 total goals for the Black and Gold.
• Junior midfielder Morgan Ferrara has notched a goal in 3 of the last 4 games and added an assist in the fourth.
• Since earning her first points with an overtime winner against OK State, Ferrara has tallied 11 points in the last eight games and is the Knights second leading scorer with five total goals.
• Sophomore goalkeeper Vera Varis has started and finished all 12 games in net for the Knights. She has logged 1,101 minutes, made 34 saves, posted three shutouts and boasts a goals-against average of 1.63.
