AAC Release

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The American Athletic Conference (AAC) announced its women's soccer Player of the Week awards Monday. UCF senior Carol Rodrigues was named Offensive Player of the Week and junior Saga Fredriksson was dubbed Defensive Player of the Week.

UCF won two thrilling games on the road last week, defeating Oklahoma State and Stetson, with game winners coming on penalty kicks in both matches.

"It's great to see both Carol and Saga honored by the league," UCF Head Coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak said. "They are our captains and have a major role in leading our team and setting the tone. I couldn't be happier seeing them rewarded for their hard work on the field. The team was really challenged this weekend, and we had the toughness to pull out two late wins"

Rodrigues scored three goals in the two matches, including both Knights goals in a 2-1 win over Stetson. It was also Rodrigues' goal against the Cowgirls, in the 84th minute that sparked the Knights to a 3-2, come-from-behind victory at Oklahoma State. She now leads the Knights with 5 goals on the season.

Defender Saga Frediksson has been a key player for the Black and Gold's back line. While pressing into the box in the final two minutes against Oklahoma State, she netted the equalizer and forced overtime, where the Knights secured the Golden Goal victory on a penalty kick.

The Knights will play host to FIU this week at the UCF Soccer Complex. The match is slated for Thursday Sept. 8 at 7:00 p.m.
