TAMPA, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF women's tennis grabbed a pair of victories Friday on the opening day of the Bedford Cup in Tampa.
Senior Cortney Cesarini pulled out a three-set match (6-3, 3-6, 6-2) victory over Sara G. Kelly of Florida Gulf Coast to advance to Saturday's semifinal of the Angelique Kerber Flight. Cesarini will face North Florida's Quetzali Vazquez at 10:30 a.m.
Monica Matias also snagged a win on the opening day, defeating Florida Atlantic's Alisa Rudenko in straight sets (6-4, 6-3). The junior will play either Julianna Curtis of FGCU or Nina Nagode from FIU in Saturday's semifinal of the Lindsay Davenport Flight at 3:30 p.m.
The rest of the Knights will continue action in the consolation rounds of their respective flights. Matches start at 9 a.m. at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
