HONOLULU, Hawaii (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF cross country team had a dominant showing in their 2016 season opener. The Knights won the Big Wave Invitational at the Kahuku Golf Course on Saturday morning.
UCF posted four of the top five times in the 5k, led by redshirt senior Anne-Marie Blaney's second place finish. The Ocala, Fla., native just narrowly missed claiming the individual title, crossing the line in 17:50.80.
Redshirt junior Holly Wooley finished third with a time of 18:21.40 followed by junior Rosie Chamberlain in fourth with a time of 18:50.50. Freshman Brittany Gill made her Black and Gold debut on Saturday, posting a fifth-place finish with a time of 18:54.00.
Redshirt junior Marissa Codispodi finished eighth in her UCF debut, finishing with a time of 19:28.30. A pair of rookies, Shiree Hinds and Victoria Jung, finished 25th and 28th, respectively, in their debuts as Knights. Hinds posted a time of 20:35.70, while Jung finished in 20:42.40. Junior Ashton McMurray finished with a time of 20:54.20 to put all eight of UCF's runners in the top 30.
The Knights return to the Sunshine State for the UNF Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 10 in Jacksonville.
