Vs. N. Florida (09-21) - Images by UCF KnightsORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF freshman forward Richard Amon cut the UCF deficit to 2-1 in the 60th minute on Wednesday evening. The Knights pressured North Florida during the rest of match, but were unable to find the equalizer at the UCF Soccer Complex.
"Our players came out and played a little too soft in getting ready for South Florida," head coach Bryan Cunningham said. "Unfortunately, we went down two goals. Then, we were up against it and had to change tactics that have worked effectively for us.
"Once, this group learns to start fast, finish our chances and get on the right side of things to start with, then we will be okay."
A 13-10 advantage in shots were held by the Knights with sophomore Gorka Aperribay and Amon tallying four each.
AMAZING AMON:
- Freshman Richard Amon scored a tough-angle goal from the right wing during the 60th minute to bring the Knights within 2-1.
- It was the third goal of the campaign by the Accra, Ghana, native, who recorded two markers in the season opener at Grand Canyon.
- An assist was credited to sophomore Jonathon Dean, his first point as a Knight.
TOUGH FIRST HALF:
- UNF netted a pair of goals in a two-minute span, starting in the 22nd minute.
- The first goal came on a header by Simen Solstad off a corner, while a bending kick from Adrian Nunez also found the back of the net.
- Six different players had a strike towards the net. The Knights also held a slight 6-5 edge in shots.
- Freshman goalkeeper Matt Rosenberg was forced to make two saves.
