Just Getting Started

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (UCFKnights.com) -- The 2016-17 collegiate golf season opened for the UCF men's squad Saturday at Wolf Run Golf Club. Led by Juuso Kahlos, the Knights are tied for fourth after the first round of the Wolf Run Intercollegiate.

Kahlos fired a 1-under 70 in Saturday's first round and is tied for sixth place. The Knights team score of 291 is just three strokes behind second place Illinois and Kentucky, who each scored 288. Purdue leads the tournament with a first tound tally of 277.

Kahlos opened with a birdie Saturday. Two bogies and another birdie on the front nine left him even at the turn. Kahlos started the back nine birdie-bogey-birdie to move to -1. A bogey on 16 was quickly answered with a birdie on 17.

Playing in his first match as a Knight, Kyler Tate also turned in a solid first round. He was 1-over and is tied for 13th. Freshman Bobby Bai, playing in his first collegiate competition, was 2-over with a 73. He is tied for 19th. Ryan Stovash and Manuel Elvira both carded a 76 (+5) and are tied for 40th.

The Wolf Run Intercollegiate was scheduled to be a 54-hole event. It has been shortened to 36 holes. Sunday will be the second and final round, beginning at 1 p.m.
