ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF volleyball team hit the hardwood for the first official practice of the season on Tuesday.

"Right now, we are looking for who we are, what we have on the team and what we are capable of," said head coach Todd Dagenais. "We are returning such a young group of players who got a lot of playing experience last season, but didn't get the result they wanted."

After a down season, the team was ready to get back on the courts.
"The energy was really, really good," said senior Taylor Gallart. "We have a lot of new girls and everyone was helping teach the newcomers our systems."

With six newcomers, Dagenais looks to his captain and seniors to provide leadership and establish the team culture.

"As a captain, my responsibility is to help all the newcomers with making sure they are in the right place at the right time," said captain Taylor Wickey. "Stressing our team culture starts before we even step on the court."

The Knights, who are presented by Holiday Inn Orlando East, will continue the tradition of hosting a Black and Gold scrimmage before FanFest 2016 at 3 p.m., at The Venue.

UCF Volleyball opens the 2016 season against Stony Brook on Aug. 26 as part of the Holiday Inn Orlando East/ UCF Invitational.
