ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Donning new practice jerseys inside Nicholson Fieldhouse which now features air conditioning, the 2016 UCF football team finally took the field for preseason camp on Friday.

First-year head coach Scott Frost was very pleased with his team's first practice.

"I thought it was a great first practice. Our team has come a long way," said Frost. "I give credit to our players for the effort they put in, to our assistant coaches for getting guys understanding our schemes on both sides and to especially our strength staff, Zach Duval and his guys, our team looks completely different out there. We look faster. We look stronger. We look leaner. And it makes a difference."

Outside as the old videoboard is quickly being disassembled at Bright House Networks Stadium, the Knights were comfy inside the fieldhouse where they held a two-hour session. It was the first on the field for 26 newcomers on the 2016 fall roster.

"I think it's unfair to judge guys as a new coach based on 15 practices where everybody is learning schemes. So right now every position battle is open. I want our guys to compete. With all of the number of reps we get at practice, I think by the end of fall camp, guys are going to know who the best players are," said Frost.

UCF will get right back to work Saturday morning with practice No. 2.
