ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Coach Greg Lovelady recently announced the hiring of Drew Roberts as the Director of Baseball Operations. Roberts comes to UCF from St. Andrews University, where he served as head coach for the last four seasons.
"I'm really excited to add Drew to our staff," Lovelady said. "He brings a ton of baseball experience that will be very beneficial to our program. The fact that he has head coaching experience will be a great asset, not only to our program but to his duties as Director of Baseball Operations. He has worked for some great head coaches in the past so he knows how to help run a successful program. I am looking forward to having him be a big part of our team moving forward."
Roberts began coaching under former Ohio University Head Coach Joe Carbone and played under Xavier Head Coach Scott Googins. He credits Carbone and Googins as his primary mentors throughout his coaching career.
At the helm for St. Andrews, Roberts finished each of his four regular seasons above .500, posting an overall record of 107-99. Under his tutelage eight players received All-Conference Team awards. Roberts also served as the recruiting coordinator for St. Andrews from 2010-2012.
A decorated student-athlete at Xavier, Roberts was named Pre-season Atlantic 10 (A-10) Conference Rookie of the Year, earned multiple A-10 Conference Player of the Week awards, an A-10 Commissioners Award, and the Athletic Advisory Board Award for Community Service.
Over the summer, Roberts led a team of high school players from around the nation to a competition in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands where the squad won the Robur58 Series. The Robur58 series was part of an international competition organized by Student Athlete World, an organization founded by former college coaches.
Roberts graduated from Xavier with B.A. in Public Relations before earning an M.A. in Coaching Education from Ohio University.
