ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - One game at a time. One practice at a time. One play at a time.
That's what UCF head football coach Scott Frost and his staff have been saying to the Knights leading up to the team's season opener on Saturday against South Carolina State. A win on Saturday night would be the team's first victory since Breshad Perriman's historic game-winning Hail Mary catch against the ECU on December 4th, 2014.
The Bulldogs are the only FCS opponent the Knights will face this season. Last year, the team played FCS opponent Furman at Bright House Networks Stadium and fell 16-15.
The Knights are determined not to have the same result this time around.
"We're not taking these guys lightly," said Frost during Monday afternoon's press conference. "They had a great year last year and this university lost to a I-AA program last year. So if there's any football player on our team that isn't taking this seriously then we're going to address that. If it takes our starters being in there for 60 minutes, that's what we'll do."
Sophomore receiver Tre'Quan Smith says the team continues to work hard on the practice field and everyone is anxious to compete face the Bulldogs.
"I always go hard on anybody, any opponent, no matter what," said Smith. "You have to love to compete no matter who you're going against."
