Knights Watch – Aug. 18

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – Head Coach Scott Frost was very pleased after Thursday morning's practice. The Knights have spent most of camp inside Nicholson Fieldhouse, but are starting to work more on the outdoor fields. After a couple of sessions where the Florida heat took a slight toll on the team, on Thursday, Frost admitted the Knights had plenty left in the tank after a long practice under the sun.

For Frost, that was a great sign that the Knights have come a long way in just two weeks, both from a conditioning standpoint and how his players have adjusted to the new style of play.

News & Notes

-In the morning, it got very competitive toward the end of practice. Big plays kept being posted by the offense: Pete DiNovo to Jordan Franks for an 80-yard touchdown, Nick Patti to Tre'Quan Smith for a 65-yard touchdown and a long strike from Justin Holman to Taylor Oldham as the clock was ticking down to set up a 47-yard field goal by Matthew Wright.

-In the end, it was the defense which earned the final big play during a mock-overtime session as it halted a two-point conversion attempt.

-UCF held a second practice in the afternoon, marking the final two-a-day of preseason camp. The Knights picked up right where they left off from the morning, as Frost again let the team know that Thursday was one of the best days the Knights have produced.

-It will have two more practices before taking Sunday off. The fall semester begins Monday.
