UCF transfer Dayon Griffin is excited to be playing back in his home state and learning from a coach like Johnny Dawkins. The 6-foot-5, 200 pound guard will sit out the 2016-17 season due to NCAA transfer rules, but he will have two years of eligibility remaining starting in 2017.

Griffin started 29-of-33 games last season for the Bulldogs, finishing third on the team in scoring with 11.3 points per game. He recorded 18 double-digit scoring performances, including three 20-point efforts. The St. Petersburg, Florida, native led LaTech in three pointers with 56 and had 14 games with at least two made treys. Griffin was also a defensive threat, averaging 1.36 steals per game, which ranked eighth in Conference USA.

During his freshman season, he saw action in 28 games but played just 6.5 minutes per game.

Coming out of St. Petersburg High School, Griffin was ranked the 38th best player in the state of Florida. He led the Green Devils a 21-4 record his senior season, averaging 21 points, seven assists, five rebounds and six steals per game. He was named First Team All-Pinella County his junior and senior seasons and an All-Suncoast Honorable Mention as a senior.
