ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF alums Jackie Coward and Octavious Freeman will be in action this week at the United States Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, July 1-10, seeking a spot on the U.S. national team for the upcoming 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Coward was a five-time All-American in the hurdles from 2009-12. The Knoxville, Tennessee, native also accumulated 10 Conference USA championships and 14 all-conference honors. In 2010, she earned UCF's first outdoor All-America honor, finishing fifth in the 100-meter hurdles.
The first round of the 100-meter hurdles is Thursday, July 7, at 8:02 p.m. ET. The semifinals and finals are slated for the following day, Friday, July 8, with the semifinals running at 6:58 p.m. ET and the finals starting at 8:54 p.m. ET.
Freeman was a nine-time All-American in just two seasons with the Knights, turning professional after her sophomore campaign. The Lake Wales, Florida, native made her mark professionally in 2013, earning a silver medal in the 100-meter dash at the USA Outdoor Championships. She also took second in the 4x100-meter relay and eighth in the 100m at the 2013 World Outdoor Championships.
The first round of the 100-meter dash will start at 3:33 p.m. ET on Saturday, July 2. The semifinals and finals will follow on Sunday, July 3, with the semis being at 7:02 p.m. ET and finals at 8:44 p.m. ET.
Current UCF track star Rosie Chamberlain competed this past weekend in the 800-meter run at the 2016 British Championships for a spot on UK's national team for the Olympics. Chamberlain finished sixth in her heat with a time of 2:07.08, respectively.
