ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF women's golfer Ashley Holder was among nine players to qualify for the 2016 U.S. Women's Amateur this weekend. A field of 94 golfers descended upon St. Ives Country Club in Johns Creek, Ga. Sunday looking to join the countries top amateurs in August.
Just nine players qualified, including Holder, who carded a 2-under par round of 70 and finished in a six-way tie for first place. She started the round with birdies on two of her first three holes and never looked back.
Holder added three more birdies, and 10 pars, reaching -4 at one point. She made just three bogies settling in at -2 for the day. As she prepares for her senior season as a Knight, qualifying for the U.S. Women's Amateur adds another notch to Holder's growing list of accomplishments.
Holder was named 2014 American Athletic Conference (AAC) Freshman of the Year and back-to-back AAC Player of the Year (2014,2015). She has been named first team All-Conference each of her three years at UCF and recently received an All-American Honorable Mention from Golfweek.com for 2016.
The U.S. Women's Amateur is slated for August 1-7 at the Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pa.
