ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF has announced the hiring of Alex Parr as the Knights' new Director of Sports Performance for Olympic Sports. Parr comes to Orlando after spending the previous three years at Old Dominion.
"I'm excited to welcome Alex to UCF as our Director of Sports Performance for Olympic Sports after successful stops at George Washington, Miami and Old Dominion," said Senior Associate Athletics Director Eric Wood. "Alex will have direct oversight of all training aspects for our men's basketball program, but he will also provide leadership in our 15 other Olympic teams to develop and implement comprehensive programs to help maximize our student-athletes' performances in their respective sports."
Parr spent the last three years at Old Dominion where he was the Associate Director of Sports Performance, working with men's basketball, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's golf. With the Monarchs, he was responsible for designing comprehensive and sport-specific programs, which focused on strength, flexibility, balance, agility and conditioning, as well as nutrition consultation.
Prior to his time at ODU, Parr also made stops at Miami and George Washington. He was an Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning for the Hurricanes from 2011-2013, working specifically with women's basketball and swimming & diving. From 2008-11, he was GWU's main strength and conditioning coach with oversight over all 22 programs.
The Montgomery Village, Maryland, native is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He is also a Level One Sports Performance Coach through United State Weightlifting, along with a Performance Enhancement Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Parr is additionally a specialist in sports nutrition through the International Sports Sciences Association and is an active isolated stretching specialist.
Parr graduated from Maryland in 2006 with a degree in finance. He then went to George Washington to earn his Master's in Exercise Science in 2008.
