UCF-Tulane Postgame Quotes

Jan. 15, 2015

UCF head coach Donnie Jones
“The first thing I told the guys was, “let’s put five more minutes back up on the clock and go play again.’ That’s easy to say after a win. I’m really proud of the guys tonight. Obviously, it was a great game. Tulane, there was a reason they’re 3-1 coming in here. Ed [Conroys]’s done a great job with his basketball team and when you get to conference play, anything can happen as you could see. Every night it’s a battle across the country. I was just really proud of our team for how they stayed and kept their composure. It was a hard fought game and it was really a great victory for our young basketball team.”

“I think it was one of those [where] there weren’t many bodies to put in. Momentum’s important when you’re playing. I wanted to put Daiquan Walker in there a few times but as you could see, I put him in there to go with a four-guard offense with the press when we were up and obviously, it’s hard to make two free throws when you’ve been sitting over there. But I thought there were a lot of efforts tonight that were outstanding. I thought Staphon played like a monster in there. Kasey Wilson took another step tonight. He’s starting to come into his own, which we need him to at the right time. His attitude is outstanding and he’s starting to get back to the Kasey that he can be.”

“I definitely give the student section credit. It’s great to see the students there. I hope they’re watching me [in this interview]. I don’t know what we can do to get them here every night. Hopefully, we can give them that type of excitement every night that will make them want to come back. They gave our guys energy and makes the student-athletes feel good when they see their own sitting in the stands cheering for them. We appreciate them being here.”

UCF freshman B.J. Taylor
“I don’t even feel tired, the adrenaline was going and in a game like that all you want to do is win. In a game like that you just keep playing. We play four-minute games like that all the time in practice, so you just keep playing and let the adrenaline push you through.”

“The loud crowd helps a lot and just gives us energy. When they come out and show support it really helps a lot.”

Tulane head coach Ed Conroy
“I’m really proud of both teams and I was having so much fun over there watching them compete. It was really something special with the energy they brought, diving for the ball on the floor in the third overtime.”

“The game really came down to our inability to stop them and therefore we fouled them too many times. Our guys were hitting threes early and we did have some key stops late in the game.”

“Their quickness in the post didn’t help and kind of hurt us on our rotations and we couldn’t beat their guys one-on-one. They are a handful, they are strong.”
