Head Coach Donnie Jones
"The best thing is that we're 1-0. We got the win and I'm happy with how we played in the last six minutes. I thought we played the right way. You worry with a young basketball team about how they will finish. They finished well tonight."
"We need to learn to work for it. Justin [McBride] and Staphon [Blair] and those guys, they need to work in the post. It's not always going to be there on the first pass. We need to keep moving the ball in order to get the ball inside. They need to make adjustments."
"I thought that we were tight early on. We played some exhibitions, but this was the real thing. We took some quick shots early on, which gave them the opportunity to get out and run. We also didn't do a good job of boxing out early on. There are a lot of things from this game that we'll learn from. They are things we can change. We're going to get better."
"We're trying to find a spot to put Shaheed Davis because he brings so much to the game. He's athletic, he had 13 rebounds in the game. Tonight we put him at the four spot."
"We're trying to figure out who our go-to-guy is on this team and obviously B.J. has the ability to score. Sometimes you have to live with some tough shots, but when a guy can score like that you have to live with it. He made some big plays, made some big free throws. He has that ability to get fouled or score. This was great experience for him. He played a lot of minutes tonight."
Freshman guard B.J. Taylor
"It was great being out here for the first game. The student section was great. It was awesome having them out here supporting us. I'm from Orlando so it's great to play in front of family and friends as well."
"You have to give Stetson credit. They came out and played really hard, really aggressive. It was good to play a close game, deal with some adversity, come together as a team and grind it out in the last few minutes."
"We have a lot of guys who can contribute to the team. We have a lot of weapons that can play a lot of different roles on this team. If we all come together, we can do something special."
Freshman guard Adonys Henriquez
"As a team we played well. We had a few mishaps on defense, but towards the end we got a lot of key rebounds and moved the ball, so today was a good win."
Stetson head coach Corey Williams
"We had some easy buckets around the basket that we should have converted. That was the difference in the game. Where we lost it was at the free throw line. They were able to shoot a lot more free throws than we were able to. They were able to draw those fouls, create those opportunities."
"We played hard, we competed, we contested shots, but we have to do a better job boxing out. UCF has a fine basketball team and a great coach. Donnie does a fantastic job and I take my hat off to him."
