UCF head coach Donnie Jones
“We’re excited for the win. That was a really good Georgia Southern team we played. They played Illinois to an eight-point game. I’m just really proud the way we grinded it out and found a way to win. That’s all that really matters right now with this team as we continue to find ways to grow up, through winning, which is important.”
“Myles Davis, what a big night for him. He played with incredible energy, effort. He obviously hit some big shots as well.”
“I thought our zone was good for us tonight. This was a team coming in averaging 80 points a game. We held them to 59 points, under 40 percent from the field. We did a great job against Hewitt. Brandon Goodwin did a really good job containing him. There were a lot of pluses defensively.”
“I thought it was very good. This is one of the best we’ve had out here. We need our students; we’ve best students in the country here right now. We need them out here to support these guys, they feed off of their energy.”
UCF sophomore Justin McBride
“I’m good. It’s a battle. We go to war with each other every day. It’s a part of the battle sometimes…you get bumps, bruises, but you have to persevere. I was just playing basketball. They put me in situation where I don’t have a choice but to succeed.”
“The fans give us life. We just feed off of them.”
UCF senior Myles Davis
“It’s an incredible feeling. We all came together and we won as a team today. We really proved that we’re a UCF basketball team. It was a great feeling, especially in the locker room. I can’t even describe it.”
“It was an amazing feeling. I’m not going to lie. My teammates are behind me 100 percent. Whenever my name is called, I’m waiting. Whatever they need, I’ll do it for them. Tonight when it happened, I was ready and things went my way.”
Georgia Southern head coach Mark Byington
“Our offense went in patterns tonight. I thought early on, I think we had 11 points the first four minutes of the game. We came out executing, scoring, and everything else. And then they went into a zone and we should have been fine, we made an adjustment at halftime because we got stagnant against the zone in the first half, and that took us out of rhythm.”
“In the last four or five minutes, I cant remember a shot that we took that wasn’t open.”
“This is a learning opportunity on December 2nd and we’re going to take it, and we’re going to see what happened, and then we’re going to make some improvements and the next time we’re in the situation we’ll be better from it.”
“McBride's a mountain; there’s no other way to describe him. They say he’s 325 pounds, I think that may just be half of him. He did a good job of finishing some shots that weren’t close to the rim and that’s not normally his repertoire. Ill give him credit, he had 31 the other night and he had 14 tonight, he played well and probably was the difference in the game.”
