"Try out for the UCF Rowing team? Cool! Wait...I don't know much about rowing..."
Rowing is an NCAA Varsity Sport at UCF
- The difference between club and varsity is financial sponsorship and academic resources from the Athletics Department.- UCF Rowing went from club to varsity status in 1996.
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY
"Novice" means first year rowing in college: learning the basics of rowing, train as a team, and compete against other novice rowers from other universities.Rowers and Coxswains
- Coxswains are typically 110lbs or lighter and steer, execute practice and race plans, and motivate rowers.- There are one, two, four, or eight rowers in a boat.
Fall Season
During the fall semester, practices will focus on endurance and strength training, and teaching you the basics of rowing.Race formats vary from timed scrimmages to 6Ks and are a test of endurance.
Spring Season
The spring racing season begins second semester and is the championship season. At a distance of 2000m, this race format is shorter than in the fall, but is often seen as more exciting.
