ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) -- Scoring early and often, No. 25 UCF Softball needed just six innings to top East Carolina in American Athletic Conference action. The Knights posted an 8-0 win over the Pirates at the UCF Softball Complex on Saturday evening.
"I think all around our pitching, defense and lineup came together today," assistant coach Tiffany Jordan said. "That's who we really are. Any time you score eight runs on 10 hits, that means the lineup is doing something right."
UCF (34-19, 11-4 The American) posted 10 hits spread among seven batters. Senior Jessica Ujvari went 3-for-4 with five RBIs and a run scored. Senior Samantha McCloskey hit her seventh home run of the season, while freshman Cassady Brewer knocked a pair of hits in the win.
Double the Fun
? Samantha McCloskey put the Knights on the scoreboard first with a two-run shot in the bottom of the first. The Detroit, Mich., native's homer was the 23rd of her career, tying her for third all-time at UCF and giving the Black and Gold a 2-0 lead.
? UCF added two runs in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from Jessica Ujvari and an ECU fielding error. The Knights carried a 4-0 lead into the fourth inning.
? Ujvari came through again in the fourth inning, driving in a pair of runs on a single up the middle. Her second hit of the game pushed the UCF advantage to 6-0.
? With runners on second and third and one out in the bottom of the sixth, Ujvari delivered the game-winning hit. Her single up the middle allowed both runners to score and UCF to claim an 8-0 run-rule victory.
Ujvari on the walk-off: "It felt good. I didn't even notice that it was a walk-off. Always continue to fight; that's what our team did tonight. Our energy was up and it was a great win for us."
Getting Defensive
? UCF held East Carolina to just three hits in the game, and the Knights defense did not commit an error in the contest.
? Senior Shelby Turnier collected her 77th career win, tossing four innings with three strikeouts. She allowed just two hits and a walk.
? Junior Manami Calixto tossed the final two innings, allowing just one hit.
