ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Five Knights earned regional recognition from the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) while the UCF rowing team competed at the 2016 NCAA Rowing Championships over the weekend.
Junior Lauren Aiello was named a First Team All-Region honoree for the second consecutive season. The Welland, Ontario, native is a two-time First Team All-Conference selection, and has been invited to try out for the Canadian U-23 team this summer.
The all-region awards recognize the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains from each of the five regions, organized into first and second-team selections. Aiello is now eligible for the All-America awards selection following the NCAA Rowing Championships.
Four Knights earned CRCA Scholar-Athlete distinction for the 2016 campaign. Seniors Amy Compare and Olivia Staples, along with junior Ashleigh Boyd, earned the honor for the second straight season. Junior Kristen Taylor also collected the accolade.
Each rower had a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher through the fall semester/quarter for the current competition year. Compare and Staples graduated in early May. Compare earned a degree in interdisciplinary studies - environmental studies major, while Staples earned a degree in sport and exercise science. Boyd is an accounting and finance double major, while Taylor is a forensic science major.
