ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF's Varsity Eight was named the American Athletic Conference Boat of the Week following back-to-back strong performances in Miami and Tennessee.

The squad consisted of Olivia Hecimovich, Ashleigh Boyd, Lauren Aiello, Viktorija Senkute, Ivana Krkljus, Zana Krakic, Marija Medelinskaite, Olivia Staples and Alison Ponce.

UCF edged Miami with a time of 6:29.3 in a dual race on April 23. The Knights opened the day with a win, sparking a sweep of the Hurricane in all four events.

The Knights closed out the Tennessee Invitational on May 1 with UCF's best finish of the day. The squad came in just behind an Iowa squad that is ranked 19th in the CRCA/USRowing Coaches poll with a time of 6:36.7 for second place.

UCF collected its first conference award of the season after earning the distinction three times in 2015.

The Knights return to action on May 14 in Sacramento, Calif. UCF looks to defend its American Athletic Conference title at the 2016 championship at Sacramento State Aquatic Center.
