Two Tickets Punched

A pair of UCF juniors in Anne-Marie Blaney and Tayla Greene punched their tickets to the NCAA Track & Field Championships Thursday night in Jacksonville, Florida.

COASTING TO EUGENE
Redshirt junior Anne-Marie Blaney coasted to a third-place finish and an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships in the 10,000-meter run. Blaney crossed the line with a time of 34:19.83, which was nearly a minute off her personal best. She will return on Saturday in an attempt to punch her ticket in the 5,000-meter run.

GREENE MACHINE
Junior Tayla Greene had a big final throw in the hammer, launching the implement 196-3/59.82m to finish sixth and qualifying for the NCAA Championships. The toss leaped her over 10 other competitors to earn her spot at Eugene.

SURVIVE AND ADVANCE
In a pair of first round races, SheKara Martin and Rosie Chamberlain each finished within the top 24 to advance to the quarterfinals. Martin ran the 20th-fastest time in the 100-meter dash and advanced with her time of 11.54. Chamberlain took second in the sixth and final heat of the 800-meter run, running an automatic qualifying time of 2:06.29.

The top 12 in each event punch their ticket to Eugene, Oregon. Martin's 100-meter dash final is tomorrow at 6:30 p.m., and Chamberlain's 800m final will follow at 7 p.m.

DAY TWO
Along with the finals of the 100m and 800m, the first round of the 200-meter dash will be contested. Martin and Briana Vaughn will compete in the that race, which is slated for 8 p.m.
