ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF dropped the second game of its series against East Carolina, 7-1, on Friday afternoon at the UCF Baseball Complex. The Knights registered six hits and were led by outfielders Matthew Mika and Eli Putnam with two base knocks each.
The Knights (25-30, 8-15 The American) pushed across their lone run in the sixth inning. Following a single to left field and two-base error, junior catcher Matt Diorio drove in junior outfielder Eli Putnam with a base knock down the right field line.
Junior righty Juan Pimentel provided UCF six strong innings and allowed just one earned run and fanned a pair of hitters. The Knights also saw sophomores Thaddeus Ward, Eric Hepple and junior Campbell Scholl throw in relief.
ECU (33-19-1, 14-8-1 The American) was paced by Dewanya Williams-Sutton with a two-run triple in the third inning. Eric Tyler and Turner Brown each added RBI base hits. Starter Jimmy Boyd (7-4) went seven innings and struck out five to notch the win.
The teams played around a 142-minute delay for inclement weather (lightning and rain), which occurred in the top of the eighth inning.
