Marina Brings Home District Honors

May 20, 2016 ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) - College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has announced its district winners in the annual Fred Stabley Jr. Writing Contest. UCF Associate Director of Athletic Communications Jenna Marina was honored with a pair of district honors.

Marina was the District 3 winner in the Event and General categories. Her Event story titled Boom! Drop the Bike chronicled a great women's soccer weekend for the Knights and forward Carol Rodrigues, who was featured on ESPN and Fox Sports 1 after recording an amazing bicycle kick goal against Tulsa. It was one of four goals - including game-winners in both UCF's games that week - for Rodrigues. The story was presented in a bit of a different format, with a great deal of photographs and visuals through the use of Exposure.

Marina's winning entry in the General category was titled Fortunate Son." The story detailed UCF baseball player Sam Bates, who gave up a guaranteed spot on an NCAA Division II squad to walk on with UCF, so he could be near his mother in Oviedo as she went through chemotherapy and radiation treatments for breast cancer. Bates' story was also a part of UCF's Everyday Champions series.

Marina's two district-winning entries will now go on to national judging. National winners will be announced in June.
