ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Following a two-run homer in the ninth inning by sophomore catcher Logan Heiser, UCF brought the go-ahead run to the plate after a pair of singles before East Carolina secured a 5-3 win Thursday at the UCF Baseball Complex.

The Knights (25-29, 8-14 The American) out-hit the Pirates (32-19, 13-8-1 The American) by a 13-12 margin. Juniors Brennan Bozeman, Eli Putnam, Ryan Crile and Heiser each tallied two base knocks.
After a one-out double by Crile down the left field line in the ninth inning, Heiser connected on his fourth round tripper of the year, which landed over the fence in left field and cut the deficit to 5-3. Putnam put UCF on the board in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly.
Junior Robby Howell was handed a no-decision, but yielded just two earned runs over six innings. The Fort White, Fla., native notched six strikeouts. A 2 1/3 inning performance with one strikeout was registered by senior Harrison Hukari.
East Carolina was led by Dwanya Williams-Sutton with three hits. Run-scoring base hits were registered by Turner Brown and Travis Watkins, while Luke Bolka blasted a solo homer. Starter Evan Kruczynski (6-1) logged 8 1/3 innings and stuck out three, while Joe Ingle notched his 12th save of the season.
