Setting the Pace

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF track & field program capped off the first day of the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in first place with 23 points. Anne-Marie Blaney set the pace for the Knights, winning the 10,000-meter run on Thursday night.

BLANEY RECLAIMS HER CROWN
Blaney reclaimed her 10,000m crown after redshirting last season, clocking a new stadium record time of 34:46.67. The redshirt junior led from start to finish, but UConn's Emily Durgin challenged early, running on Blaney's heels up until the halfway point. Blaney has now won the AAC Outdoor 10k two times in the last three seasons.

Teammate Holly Wooley finished sixth in her first career 10,000m, respectively, running 36:09.08.

HAMMER TIME
Chelsea Gobourne and Kalen Hambrick snatched a handful of points for the Knights in the hammer throw, finishing third and fourth. Gobourne struggled to find her rhythm, but the junior college transfer's first throw was all she needed, hurling the implement 189-4/57.72m. Hambrick grabbed fourth with a toss of 187-10/57.26m on her second attempt.

PRITCHETT IN THE HEPT
Kayla Pritchett had a career day one in the heptathlon, scoring a personal best 2,857 points and finishing the day in fourth place. The junior started strong, clocking a time of 15.39 in the 100-meter hurdles, which was one-hundredth of a second off her personal best. Later, Pritchett closed out day one with a new career best time in the 200-meter dash, winning the event with a time of 25.03.

DAY TWO
Friday's schedule includes the discus and pole vault along with the conclusion of the heptathlon. UCF will also have multiple runners competing in the prelims of the 200m, 800m and 400H. The pole vault will be the Knights' first event, starting at 10:30 a.m.
