ORLANDO, Fla. - UCF head coach Todd Dagenais announced the addition of Laché Harper and Abby Zimroth to the UCF Volleyball 2016 recruiting class.
Laché Harper is a 6-foot-3 outside hitter/middle blocker. The Richmond, Va., native was named the Conference 12 Player of the Year as a senior at L.C. Bird. In her final season, she recorded 263 kills, 215 digs, and 52 blocks. She was named All-Conference 12 First team and All-5A South Region Second team during her tenure as a Skyhawk. Harper is also a member of the National Honor Society.
"Laché was a wonderful find by (assistant coach) Jenny Maurer," Dagenais said. "She has only been playing the sport for a few years, but she has elite athleticism and the ability to play all three front row positions for us. We will likely start her out in the left side position where we feel she can be a high efficiency attacker, as well as a shut-down blocker on the left antenna. She comes from an unbelievably athletic family. Her father was a great basketball player, and her brother has played for the Detroit Pistons and the Los Angeles Lakers. Most importantly she is a tremendous student and really embodies our philosophy regarding what a student-athlete is."
Abby Zimroth is a 5-foot-10 outside hitter/setter. The Tampa, Fla., native was named the Tampa Catholic team MVP twice and was a three-time All-County honorable mention selection. As a senior, Zimroth was a FACA State All-Star Game selection, and earned All-Hillsborough County First Team honors from the Tampa Tribune.
"Abby also come from a sports family," Dagenais said. "Her father has been a basketball coach at many levels, including a stint at USF as an assistant coach. She already has the genes to understand what it takes to be successful at the collegiate level. Abby will likely contribute mostly in the back court, but also has the ability to play left side if needed. She has a very high volleyball IQ and possesses the ability to make us a better team on and off the court."
Harper and Zimroth join Alli Sabol, Jeanne Westney and Nerissa Moravec in the incoming recruiting class. They will officially report to campus for the summer training session.
