JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The Knights fell 4-3 on a walk off miscue in the ninth inning on Tuesday evening at North Florida. Junior Ryan Crile connected on a two-run homer in the third inning to put the Knights up early at Harmon Stadium.

The Knights (20-19) were forced to load the bases in the ninth inning following a walk and double down the right field line with one out by the Ospreys (25-14). A ground ball back to the pitcher enabled for the second out to be recorded before the throw to first to complete a double play was high, allowing the game-winning run to score.

UCF knotted the game at three-all in the fifth inning on what would-be ruled a sac fly by junior Austin Griffin. With one out and the bases loaded, Griffin hit a high fly ball barely into the right field grass and an infield fly was called. The second baseman lost the ball in the sun and it dropped onto the grass, which enabled Hamblin to cross the plate from third base.

Crile Hurting The Ospreys

  • Ryan Crile connected on a two-run shot to right to open the scoring in the third inning.
  • He drove in Matthew Mika, who led off the frame with a single.
  • The homer was his second against UNF. His first was a three-run bomb back on Feb. 24 in the Knights' 5-4 win.

Pitching Performances

  • Freshman left-handed starter Bryce Tucker went 3 1/3 innings and struck out three.
  • The Apopka, Fla., native only allowed three runs and six hits during the stretch.
  • A stellar relief effort was provided by sophomore righty Andrew Deramo, who logged four scoreless innings and struck out five.
  • The loss was given to Thaddeus Ward (0-1).

Noting the Ospreys

  • The game-winning run was scored by Dakota Higdon, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
  • Dalton Board also added two base hits and drove in a run.
  • Alex Smith (2-0) registered the victory with one strikeout in 1 2/3 innings of work.
  • Brad Depperman started, went four innings and fanned five, while Daniel Mortiz added 3 1/3 frames of relief and three strikeouts.

The Knights return home on Friday at 6:30 p.m. to start a three-game set with Tulane. The Saturday contest begins at 4 p.m., while the finale of the series is set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
