W. LAFAYETTE, Ind. (UCFKnights.com) -- Sophomore Manuel Elvira is playing some of the best golf of his collegiate career as he heads into the postseason. Elvira finished tied for fifth at the Boilermaker Invitational Sunday.
It was the third straight tournament with a Top 5 finish for Elvira, who has two victories under his belt this season. He was 2-under for the tournament heading into Sunday's final round of action. Elvira was a bit up and down Sunday, but he had one more up than down.
He opened with two bogeys, but responded with three straight birdies to make the turn at 1-under. A bogey on No. 10 pushed him back to even par, but birdies on Nos. 11 and 15 pushed him to -2 for the round. A bogey on his final hole of the day left him at -1 for the day and 3-under for the tournament.
Elvira was one of just 13 golfers in the 84-man field to finish under par.
Andrew Arft tallied a solid 1-over in the third round to end up in a tie for 34th (+6). Donnie Trosper was 7-over and finished tied for 38th. Juuso Kahlos was 12-over and tied for 58th, while Thomas Le Berre (+13) finished tied for 61st.
The Knights will now prepare for the American Athletic Conference Championship, set for May 1-3 at Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, Fla.
