CORAL GABLES, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Despite a three-run, eighth-inning rally that had the game-tying run at the plate, UCF was unable to halt No. 1 Miami's 10-game win streak in an 8-4 loss on Wednesday. Freshman third baseman Matthew Mika batted leadoff and paced the Knights with two hits.

Freshman catcher Anthony George registered his first-career double off the fence in left during the fifth frame to put the Knights on the board. He drove in junior Luke Hamblin, who drew a walk and stole second.

During the three-run eighth inning, hits by Mika, junior second baseman Ryan Crile and junior designated hitter Matt Diorio to leadoff the frame loaded the bases. Sophomore pinch hitter Logan Heiser was hit by a pitch before an RBI single by junior right fielder Eli Putnam. A sac fly from junior Kam Gellinger cut the deficit to 7-4.

UCF (18-17) turned its 40th double play of the season on a ground ball to shortstop Gellinger to end the fourth frame.

Miami (27-4) was led by Jacob Heyward with two RBI, while Brandon Lopez added a pair of base hits. Starter Jesse Lepore (5-0) struck out six over six innings of work. A five-out save was notched by Bryan Garcia (10).

The Knights return to the UCF Baseball Complex on Friday to start a three-game set against conference-rival South Florida at 6:30 p.m. Saturday's game time has been moved up to noon and is a part of the #UCFastival. The finale on Sunday between the Knights and Bulls begins at 1 p.m.
