ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The opening round of the Bryan National Collegiate began as ominously as it ended. After a delay of more than two hours to start the day, the Knights finished 13th.
Inclement weather forced the scheduled starting time of 8:30 a.m. to be delayed until 11:00 a.m. The format was also adjusted to a shotgun start to ensure the round would be completed.
Junior Ayaka Nakayama led the way for UCF, carding an opening round score of four-over par (76). Fellow junior Ashley Holder kept pace firing a six-over par 78. Junior Johanna Larsson shot 80 (+8) while senior Mary Mulcahy shot 81 (+9) and freshman Dree Fausnaugh ended the day with an 87 (+15).
In team play, Virginia fired a 289 (+1) jumping out to an 8 shot lead over South Carolina and Notre Dame, which tied for second with a 297 (+9). Miami and Wake Forest tied for fourth with matching rounds of 298 (+10).
Second round action is slated for 8:30 a.m. Saturday with the Knights taking the tee starting at 9:15 a.m. Click here to follow UCF via live scoring.
