HOUSTON, Texas (UCFKnights.com) - The Knights fell in the series finale at Rice, 13-10, on Sunday at Reckling Park. UCF rallied in the ninth inning with three runs on two hits and had the game-tying run at the plate before the Owls closed out the game.

Junior Austin Griffin paced the squad with three hits and two runs driven in. A season-high four-hit performance was recorded by junior shortstop Brennan Bozeman, while two RBI each were delivered by junior third baseman Kam Gellinger, Bozeman and sophomore catcher Logan Heiser.

The Knights held leads of 4-0 and 6-2 in the first three innings, but the Owls battled back to tie the contest at 6-6 after the third frame. Rice scored seven unanswered runs, which included six in the seventh inning, before UCF scored four of its own in the final two frames.

The Knights conclude a stretch with eight of nine games on the road with a 6 p.m. Wednesday contest at Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach.

UCF is back home to start a three-game series against LIU Brooklyn on Friday. The series opener is set for 6:30 p.m. at the UCF Baseball Complex.

Four in the First Frame

  • The Knights struck for four runs on six hits by batting around in their first at bat.
  • All six hits were singles except for a two-run double to right center by Austin Griffin.

  • After the Owls cut the UCF lead to 4-2, the Knights answered with two runs on two hits in the third inning.
  • Eli Putnam led off the frame with a single up the middle and stole second.
  • Following a walk issued to Eugene Vazquez, Matthew Mika registered a sac bunt to move the runners into scoring position.
  • A two-run single to left by Kam Gellinger upped the Knights' advantage to 6-2.

Noting the Owls

  • After tying the game in the third inning, Rice took the lead for good on a sac fly in the sixth inning and extended its advantage to 13-6 in the next frame.
  • The Owls grounded into three double plays that were turned by the Knights' defense.
  • Glenn Otto (1-0) earned the win after logging five innings and yielding one earned run.
  • Jackson Parthasarathy registered his first save by notching the final out.
