ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) -- UCF delivered its sixth-consecutive victory Friday with a 4-2 triumph over Tulane at the UCF Tennis Complex. It also was the Knights' third-straight win against a conference opponent as they previously defeated UConn and SMU.

With the win, UCF improved to 10-4 on the year and 3-1 in league play, while the Green Wave dropped to 5-11 and 1-1.

UCF jumped out to the 1-0 lead in doubles play with victories at the No. 1 and 3 spots. The first to finish was at No. 3 where Monica Matias teamed up with Cortney Cesarini to bounce Jacqui Katz and Kyla Klier, 6-2. At No. 1, Sofia Baptista and Natalia Serrano secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Ipek Birol and Sade Atkinson.

When singles got underway, UCF broke out to a 3-0 cushion as Serrano took down Sofia Kurtz at No. 6, 6-3, 6-3, then Cesarini handed Atkinson a 6-4, 6-3 decision at No. 5.

Tulane, though, fought back with a two-set victory at No. 1 followed by a three-set win at No. 3. With UCF ahead 3-2, both the remaining two matches were deep in their respective third sets, but finally it was Matias who broke through. At No. 4, she posted a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 triumph against Meredith Maltby for the fourth and deciding point, and allowed the Knights to enter the Holiday weekend on a high note.

The Knights will get back on the courts against No. 56 USF Wednesday at 2 p.m. The first 50 fans to the match receive a pink UCF tank top. Admission to all matches at the UCF Tennis Complex is free.
