The game featured nine lead changes heading into the final period, and the Cougars' 11-2 run early gave them a healthy 9-point lead with seven minutes remaining.

The Knights (5-17, 2-9) fought back with nine unanswered to tie it up at 52, but Alecia Smith's and Marche' Amerson's back-to-back 3-pointers was the dagger that UCF couldn't recover from. In the end, Houston outscored UCF, 24-14, in the fourth quarter.

With leading scorer Zykira Lewis in foul trouble (she finished with 3 points), freshman Kayla Thigpen stepped up with 14 points on a 6-of-9 showing from the field. Sophomore Aliyah Gregory added 11 points.

Houston's win snapped the Knights' winning streak in the series at six games and delivered the Cougars' (5-16, 1-9) first conference win of the year.
