PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) -- The UCF men's golf team improved its score in both the second and third rounds over the weekend at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational. But that day-over-day improvement still saw the Knights finish in 15th place at Sawgrass Country Club.
UCF opened with a first-round 321 Friday. The Knights responded with a 312 in the second round and a round of 294 in Sunday's third and final round. As a team, UCF was 63-over par. Oklahoma State won the tournament with a mark of 6-under, while North Florida (+3) and Jacksonville (+17) rounded out the top three.
Manuel Elvira (81-79-69=229 +13) was the top finisher for the Knights, tying for 51st. His third-round total of 69 (-3) was the best round of the tournament for the Knights. Thomas Le Berre (81-81-70=232 +16) was tied for 62nd. George Williams (83-78-72=233 +17) was tied for 67th, but played as an individual.
Donnie Trosper (83-74-78=235 +19) finished tied for 72nd, while Andrew Arft (77-82-77=236 +20) was tied for 77th. Juuso Kahlos (82-78-79=239 +23) rounded out the Knights' lineup, finishing tied for 82nd.
UCF is away from competition for nearly a month until their next outing. The FAU Slomin Autism Invite opens March 25 in Lake Worth, Fla. The Knights are the defending champions in the event.
