BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (UCFKnights.com) - UCF track & field had a strong start to the 2016 American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, earning two podium finishes, advancing 10 student-athletes to the finals of six events, and posting 14 new personal records.

The Knights capped off the first day of competition with 23 points and sit fifth overall with 6-of-17 events scored. Cincinnati is the early leader with 38 points followed by UConn (36), Memphis (32) and East Carolina (29). The Black & Gold look to make a jump in the standings tomorrow with 11 events still yet to be scored.
BACK-T0-BACK
Redshirt junior Anne-Marie Blaney was the Knights' lone event winner on the opening day of the two-day meet, winning her second consecutive 5,000-meter crown. The redshirt junior's time of 16:31.30 edged her previous best by over a second, setting a new school and conference record.
The 5,000m crown is the first of three that Blaney hopes to win with the mile and 3,000-meter run finals tomorrow.
RECORD-BREAKING TOSS
Senior Kalen Hambrick set a new UCF record in the weight throw, tossing the implement 65-9/20.04m. The throw, which earned Hambrick fifth, topped the previous record held by Destinee Romain (2014) by three-quarters of an inch.
