ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) -- No. 17 UCF Softball split its final day of action at the UCF Knights Invitational on Saturday. The Knights opened the day with a 4-0 shutout of Fordham before dropping a 1-0 decision to No. 19 James Madison at the UCF Softball Complex.
"We started off a little slow against Fordham," head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie said. "In the fourth inning, you saw us break it open. (James Madison) came down to a pitching duel. It was a hard-fought game."
UCF went 4-1 on its opening weekend, which included an 8-1 victory over No. 5 Alabama.
Four Against Fordham
? The Knights scored four runs in the fourth inning against Fordham, leading to their fourth win of the season.
? UCF tallied nine hits, led by three from senior Jessica Ujvari. Junior Linnea Goodman went 2-for-3 with two RBI, a walk and a run scored.
? Junior Manami Calixto earned her second win of the season, tossing six innings. Senior Jamie Ujvari earned her second save, striking out one in the seventh inning.
Coach Gillispie: In the fourth inning, you saw us break it open. We had seven quality at-bats; they went through the lineup being able to hit. You saw a lot of fight in that inning.
James Madison Duel
? For the second straight season, the Knights found themselves in a battle with the Dukes.
? Senior Shelby Turnier worked a no-hit bid into the fourth inning before Morgan Tolle delivered what proved to be the game-winning home run.
Turnier Tough
? Senior Shelby Turnier went the distance against her second consecutive Top-25 opponent. She only allowed two hits and a walk, while striking out seven James Madison batters.
? The Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., native is 2-1 and has allowed just eight hits with 17 strikeouts in 19 innings of action.
Next Up
? UCF hosts No. 4 Auburn on Feb. 17. The Knights host their third ranked opponent in the first six games. First pitch is slated for 10 a.m. at the UCF Softball Complex.
