Knights 10th in Home Tournament

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF women's golf team finished 10th Tuesday in the UCF Challenge at Eagle Creek Golf Club. Junior Ashley Holder was the Knights top individual finishing tied for 11th.

Holder was five-over for the tournament (73-73-75=221) while fellow junior Johanna Larsson had the best day for Knights, carding a final round tally of 72 (E). Senior Mary Mulcahy started strong on day three with back-to-back birdies before turning in a 75 (+3) while junior Ayaka Nakayama notched a 76 (+4). Dree Fausnaugh finished the day with an 82 (+10) and fellow freshman Erica Stoner shot 88 (+16).

Houston (+21) made a late push to overtake Tulane (+22) by a single shot for the title. Missouri (+26) finished third, Texas was fourth (+27) while East Carolina, Iowa State, and Kentucky all tied for fifth (+28).

East Carolina's Frida Gustafsson Spang started the final round tied for first with Missouri's Michelle Butler before notching three birdies in her first seven holes to take a five-shot lead. Spang would go on to take medalist honors by a three-shot margin.

Next up for the Knights is the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in New Orleans, La. February 21-23.
