ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF women's golf team finished third in the Florida Challenge at the Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, Fla. Monday. The 36-hole shootout was the first event of the spring season for the Knights.

Once again, junior Ashley Holder shined bright for the Knights, leading the squad with a 70-72=142 (-2). She was runner up but finished tied for fifth place overall due to a four-way tie for first. This marks her fourth top 10 finish of the season as she continues to be the Knights top performer.

Juniors Ayaka Nakayama (T13) and Johanna Larsson (T15) each notched top 20 finishes shooting 150 (+6) and 151 (+7) respectively. Senior Mary Mulcahy shot 157 (+13) and freshman Dree Fausnaugh (43) carded a 173 (+29). Freshman Erica Stoner (44) played as an individual and turned in a 175 (+31).

In team play, Florida State took the early lead through 18 holes but was unable to maintain the edge in the second round. Florida, who was just three-shots back after round one, improved its score and took advantage of a struggling Seminoles squad to secure the team title.

Next week the Knights will host the UCF Challenge at Eagle Creek Golf Club February 7-9.
