ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - On a blustery, chilly afternoon at the UCF Tennis Complex, the Knights carried the momentum from winning the doubles competition into a 6-1 victory against Troy on Saturday in the first dual match of the spring.

Doubles began with junior Cortney Cesarini and freshman Natalia Serrano sweeping their Trojan opponent at No. 2, but Troy bounced back with a victory at No. 3 to even the competition. Senior Sofia Baptista and sophomore Emilia Granstrom secured the first point of the match with a 6-3 triumph in the first slot.
UCF (1-0) saw Baptista provide the second point for her squad with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2. Senior Caroline Eberhart registered a straight-set victory, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 1 to put the Knights up 3-1 on Troy (0-1).
At No. 6, freshman Diana Dehterevich secured the match for UCF with a pair of 6-3 triumphs. A tight match was played by Cesarini at No. 5, which saw her win a first-set tiebreaker, 7-5, before clinching the victory, 6-4, in the second set.
Granstrom at No. 3 downed her opponent in a third-set supertiebreaker, 10-6. Both players split the first two frames with identical 6-3 scores.
The Knights continue a two-match homestand on Friday with a 2 p.m. match against Florida A&M.
