ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The Knights kicked off the spring season by notching seven victories on Saturday at the UCF Quad Tournament. UCF secured a pair of wins in doubles vs. FIU and added five singles triumphs over North Texas at the UCF Tennis Complex.

The No. 3 tandem of senior Clare Mendell and freshman Diana Dehterevich began the day with a 6-4 win at No. 3. Sophomore Monica Matias and Emilia Granstrom came through with a 7-5 victory against the Panthers at No. 2.
A hard-fought effort at No. 1 was put up by seniors Caroline Eberhart and Sofia Baptista, who pushed the contest to a supertiebreaker, but came up short, 7-5, vs. FIU.
In singles action against North Texas, straight-set victories were registered by Eberhart, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2, Granstrom, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3 and Mendell, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 6. Matias also won back-to-back frames at No. 5, but secured the triumph, 10-8, in a tiebreaker.
At No. 4, junior Courtney Cesarini took the first set 6-1, but dropped the second 6-4. The Lower Gwynedd, Pa., native battled back to take the match with a 6-2 win in the third stanza.
The Knights continue the UCF Quad Tournament on Sunday at 11 a.m. with doubles vs. Rice followed by singles vs. FIU. The start time was pushed back one hour with inclement weather in the forecast.
