Orlando, Fla. - Finding a job after graduation is something every college graduate looks forward to. UCF's student-athletes got a head start looking for that first job recently when many of the Knights' upperclassmen took park in Networking Knights.
It's an event the UCF Student-Athlete Welfare and Development department holds every semester to help student-athletes make connections with local and regional companies. This semester, a total of 58 student-athletes attended the event as well as 23 companies/businesses.
It's the culminating event of the semester where they get to put into play everything they learned from mock interviews to using their resumes, said Director of Student-Athlete Welfare and Development Ben Rodriguez.
Student-athletes have daily schedules filled with practice, class and other obligations on campus, so it can sometimes be difficult for them to have internships during the school year or summer. An event like this gives the student-athletes an opportunity to connect with potential employers and learn how to market themselves to the business world.
We know that athletics doesn't last forever and I think it's a good opportunity for all of the student-athletes to know that, outside of athletics, doors can open for us career-wise, said track and field student-athlete Christal Peterson. We were given a lot of really good tips that I'm going to use after I graduate and head out into the real world.
