UCF Head Coach George O'Leary
On his team's performance:
"Well obviously, [I am] very disappointed on the outcome and the continued mistakes we make offensively and defensively. Just a lot of kids out there that are not ready yet, but injuries and loss of scholarships have caused us to put them on the field. Again just too many easy scores and too many dumb mistakes out there in all phases. Again, not a good game. I told the team after the game that I didn't have too many positive comments to say to them and I will deal with it tomorrow after I watch the tape and make sure I saw what I saw."
On halfway mark of the season and what to do next:
"The outlook is one to see if we can get a full group of kids back that can play. We got kids out there when you watch a game that aren't ready yet. They are the ones dropping the ball and missing tackles. And again the thing that we can't do is make the mistakes such as holding calls that caused some problems. I think the big thing with this is we just have to move forward. We missed some guys here that probably could have helped the situation. You just have to continue working with them. I think the big issue is the loss of 15 scholarships over the last three years. I am not alibiing, that's just where our depth is. We don't have those guys, so right away we are playing younger kids, who probably aren't ready to play from a strength or speed standpoint. You can't make the mistakes we are making and win games. I think there were 14 points just off of picks. I think, defensively, we blew a couple of coverages and the tackling was atrocious on the secondary. Again, they are young and have to wrap up and play more."
On if Holman was 100%:
"He is fine. He was fine. He would have had a really nice day, but I don't know how many balls he had dropped on him, at least five or six that were big potential plays. Those are what stalls drive. It was a disappointing game as far as improving goes."
On Jeremy Boykins:
"I don't know. All I know is he left in an ambulance. That is the information I was given at halftime. I will find out when I go back in."
On dropped passes:
"I think ball concentration is what I look at. Not be looking around and taking there eyes off the catch is what I think. When you are a young kid, you have to concentrate on that ball, then worry about traffic around you. That is where I see a lot of the mistakes being made. That and not running through the catch and stopping. We are trying to circle the field too much."
UConn Head Coach Bob Diaco
"Really proud of the seniors in particular. They continue to strain and give despite of many obstacles and challenges and persevere through faith in them seeing and believing. They led the team this week with a strong preparation. We felt good about coming down here as a team. The players were confident based on what they did all week. We were predominately led by the seniors and by our native Florida players. I think there are 11 Florida players on our football team, which helped strain the importance of this game to the others on their team. We were strongly supported by the UConn fans and their big groups so it feels so great for them that they could make a great investment and help invest in their brothers understand how important this was for them.
I would just like to commend Coach (George) O'Leary. I have been such a fan of his and the team that he puts together. He has been a great head coach and ambassador for college football and leader of young men for a long, long time. His team plays with class and character. In particular, Justin Holman -- gutsy performance giving it up for his brothers after being off and in challenging circumstances with his throwing hand. Just a special, gutsy performance, I thought, by him.
The team is excited getting our first road win. We keep tapping at the rock and eventually it's going to crack. I feel like all three phases played together for four quarters." UCF redshirt senior Joseph Pulopuo
On the halftime speech:
"We have to eliminate the mistakes; we got to go out there and execute our game at a high tempo and we got to go out there and score points. Limit the turnovers and do the right assignments."
On what they can fix for the next game:
"Definitely, there's always room for improvement. Got to go in there and watch it on film, the tape doesn't lie. Got to go in the film room and watch those mistakes and next we can practice on those and try and improve on them."
UCF redshirt junior Nick Patti
On team's reaction after the game:
"Not very good, it gets no easier. Losing is never fun, you play to win. Stack a couple of losses on top of each other like we did and it gets tougher and tougher."
On when little mistakes and penalties start to add up:
"We as an offense got to do a better job at working and sustaining throughout the game. We can't let one mistake through us into a tiff. We got to build off of things and keep the momentum going and help the defense out a little bit."
On expectations coming into the game:
"Try to keep a steady pace no matter who's back there pulling the trigger. We expected to win and that was pretty much our only expectation coming in. You expect to the move the ball and win, and we didn't get that done."
On how he feels getting the last interception:
"It always fun to score, that's why you play. You always want to get in the end zone but it's bittersweet."
UCF sophomore Jamiyus Pittman
On if the defense took any steps forward today:
"Not really. I feel like we didn't play as good as we should have played. We knew what to expect; we watched from film and we didn't do what we were supposed to do."
On if they felt prepared for the game:
"I feel like we prepared for this game like we do for every other game. Everything they did, we've seen before. We've seen it all week, but when it came down to it, we just couldn't get it done."
On this new rivalry:
"I don't know about winning a trophy. We are just trying to win because we want to win the conference. That's the main goal."
On how difficult it is being 0-6:
"It's hard. We've got to keep pushing; we know it's on us. We can't blame anybody but ourselves. We are not doing what we are supposed to be doing and it's time to do it."
On the chemistry in the locker room:
"It's the same. We are family; we just have to get better."
On how much youth plays into it:
"I don't know. Honestly, we do have young players, but I feel like they know how to win. We can't put the blame on us being young. It's just we have to do what we have to do."
